WILD PIGEONS ( Columba palumbus. )

Migrant wildfowl, transiting, they are available in southern regions, in the plain, on the agricultural land in the Danube Delta and in the vicinity of the Danube. Optimum hunting time are the months of November and December .

The most common wild pigeon in Romania is the wood pigeon ( Columba palumbus ).

An adult weighs over 500 grams .

It is a still hunt in the irrigation canals or in places with high vegetation, adjacent to the fields that had been cultivated with sunflower, maize, soybean, or wheat, the pigeons which transit from the water to their feeding places in the irrigation canals are awaited.

They can also be awaited in the afternoon, when they fly to their sleeping places, when the exact such places are known.

We recommend groups of 3 to 10 persons . A good day's hunting offers about 10-15 pieces.

Recommended gun: shot gun, pellet diameter 2,5 - 3 mm (No. 7, 5) .
